Grand Raid
Posted by Helen Hunter on Saturday, August 29, 2009,
Nigel completed the Grand Raid on Saturday 22 August 2009, great event and very well organised. 3300 competitors in all 1517 in the 68km race from Heremence, I came 655th overall and 171st out of 470 plus in class (older men). Very respectable considering I had a problem with the bike and then crashed on the decent into Eveolen, so was a little cut and bruised which didn't help on the main climb. The support was great along the way and the guys had set up a banner and British flag on top of... Continue reading ...

Hike Emosson Dams and dinosaur route
We arrive at the new Emosson dam at about 8.15am, equipped with new hiking boots and packed lunch. The larger newer Emosson Dam is immense, we hiked directly up and over the next mountain a view point where you get an amazing view of Mont Blanc and the Aletsch glacier on the Swiss, French boarder. Papival Anzère
Posted by Helen Hunter on Monday, July 27, 2009,
Nigel rode in the Papival tour on Friday night, so Monday after the TDF we decided to have a look at the route http://www.papival-bike-tour.ch/Ayent.html It’s a really hard climb from St Romain up to Anzère but fun on the way down, lots of rustic little chalets in the forest stages.
Nigel’s result http://www.papival-bike-tour.ch/PDF/2009/Papival%202009%20Ayent.pdf
Getting faster, although it rained for the race and there were people sliding off in the forest stages everywhere. Continue reading ...
Tour de France in Verbier
Posted by Helen Hunter on Monday, July 27, 2009,
The Tour de France came to Verbier last weekend 19th July. We thought a good way to go would be to mountain bike, no parking or sitting in traffic!!!.
Friends wanted to meet at 8am!!! in Les Collons, so we arrived after a fairly heavy night of drinking at Theytaz sports. Nigel cycled from the shop to Siviez, I took the more leisurely route from Thyon 2000 to Siviez. It was the day all the farmers take their cows to high pasture so we were not alone at that time in the morning on the ... Continue reading ...

Cow fighting in Valais - next to the Veysonnaz piste
Posted by Helen Hunter on Wednesday, July 15, 2009,
The cows don't get hurt, just a bit of a bitch fight head to head until one backs down, they fight each other until a winner is decided. The winning cow will demand a much higher price if sold. No 53 break for freedom, had enough of being bullied!! Continue reading ...
